For several years, Italy has been the top honeymoon destination in the world. It is no wonder that its fabulous shopping, delectable cuisine, rich history and spectacular beaches, have had lovers falling in love with Italy, for centuries.  Whether you and your fiancé are art lovers, history fanatics, or simply love to hang out at the beach all day, Italy provides the perfect setting for your love story. What can be more romantic than having a delicious plate of pasta while sipping on some great Chianti amidst breathtaking scenery?

There are many romantic activities to do in Italy: enrolling in culinary classes for couples, wine tasting in the lush countryside and holding hands while watching an unforgettable sunset on one of Italy’s famous beaches.

Touted as one of the world’s most romantic cities, Venice seems as if it was designed for lovers. Just imagine being with your honey on a romantic gondola ride enjoying the spectacular city built on water. Venice is considered to be one of the most important art cities of the world which makes this destination extremely unique. The world famous Murano glass is created here along with some stunning hand painted masques used for Carnevale. Take a walk in Piazza San Marco and take a moment to feed the human-friendly pigeons and to admire the elegant lighting, and classical quartettes playing throughout the square with the sea only feet away.

Rome is the capital of Italy and home to such landmarks as Vatican City, St. Peter’s Basilica, the “mouth of truth”, the Spanish steps and the Coliseum; these are just a few of the many beautiful sites that the eternal city has to offer. Rich in culture and history Rome is a modern day marvel.  There are numerous tours that will show you the remnants of what once was the empire of the world. Not simply a city of the past, Rome’s rich nightlife offers an array of clubs, restaurants and pubs.

A few areas where you can find an excellent variety of nightlife is Trastevere, Testaccio, Ostiense and Campo de’ Fiori.

The Tuscan region is one of the most famous and beautiful regions in Italy. In particular, the city of Florence is amongst one of the most impressive cities worldwide. Florence is famous for its rich art and impressive architecture. There are many things to do in this city including visiting its historical buildings, monuments, and rich museums such as the Galleria degli Uffizi, The Duomo, the Baptistry, the Galleria Palatina, the Bargello and the museum Palazzo Pitti.

Take a tour to Siena & San Gimignano and walk on old but perfectly preserved cobblestone streets in traditional villages. Don’t forget to also visit the beautiful Chianti region where you can taste some of the best wines in the world.

Southern Italy is an awesome pick for several reasons; besides being absolutely spectacular for its natural splendor, it is also incredibly cheaper than the North. Sure, places such as Napoli and Capri are getting more attention these days but even further South than the Amalfi Coast deserves some attention. Take Sicily for example; Sicily is famous for its raw beauty, amazing cuisine and warm hospitality.

Sicily has stunning beaches such as Cefalu’ and Mondello, great historical cities such as Agrigento and Palermo , and picturesque towns such as Taormina and Siracusa. And if you want to feel as if you are in paradise you can opt to go to either the Aeolian Islands or Pantelleria Island. Enjoy natural beauty, untouched beaches, lush vineyards, and romantic sunsets.

There is much to choose from in Italy. Other locations that tourists might consider are Sardenia, Lake Como, Milan, Turin, Lucca, Cinque Terre, Sorrento, Positano, San Remo and many, many other cities.
