St. Kitts and Nevis Romantic Getaways

Fitting together like a hand in glove; St. Kitts and Nevis are separated by just a two-mile wide channel. Sandwiched between Antigua and Puerto Rico, the sister islands are easily accessible by ferry or private charter. On one side, St. Kitts dishes up a myriad of fun in the sun from riding a sugar train and zip lining through a rainforest to snapping photos of cloud-capped Mt. Liamuiga at 3,792 feet above the sea and sipping a fine cognac in one of many seaside bistros. At just eighteen miles long and five miles wide, this tiny tropical treasure may not be on everyone's radar, but that's all the better for couples seeking to soak up the sun on gorgeous white sand beaches surrounded by warm waters.

St. Kitts Hiking Rainforest

With more than a quarter of its land designated as a National Park and with a rainforest that is actually expanding in size rather than shrinking, both islands are surrounded by untouched dive sites that are marked by massive beds of coral teeming with fish of every stripe and color. On land, wildlife is abundant from chattering gray-green monkeys called vervets and scurrying families of mongoose to roaming cows, goats, and black-bellied sheep.

Seven miles long and five miles wide, Nevis is serene, green and eco-astute from the top of the 3,232-foot Nevis Peak to the windmills that stand proud on the north coast. Celebrated as the birthplace of Alexander Hamilton, the first Secretary of the US Treasury and the face on the U.S. ten dollar bill, the tiny isle boasts elegant Inns that were once sugar plantations and snorkeling in the sea so clear it looks like white rum. So far unspoiled by mass tourism, fine beaches circle the shoreline with Pinney's the top choice for calm waters and Oualie Beach for diving.
