United States Virgin Islands Romantic Getaways

The USVI is the United States own little backyard Caribbean paradise. This chain of 50 islands IS presided over by the big three - St. Thomas, St. Croix and St. John. This tropical trio gives lovers everything they're looking for in a romantic destination, but with much less hassle. Unlike most other Caribbean destinations, you won't need a passport to enter the USVI. This may not seem like all that big a deal when you're making travel arrangements for two ' the bride and groom. But passport requirements could be a major stumbling block when planning the guest list for a destination wedding. There are several other perks presented by the USVI: there's no customs red tape in entering and departing the islands, driving is on the right, English is spoken everywhere and the U.S. dollar is the currency of choice. Less stress leaves you with more energy to enjoy what brought you to the islands in the first place ' each other.

On all three islands, beautiful beaches reign supreme. A close second in appeal is the duty-free shopping. Throw in a wide selection of accommodations - from glitzy resorts to small boutique hotels - and you have a real winner.

St. Thomas is the most developed of the three islands and has the widest range of resorts, nightlife, attractions and downtown diversions in its capital, Charlotte Amalie.

St. Croix is actually the biggest of the three. You'll find it more laidback than St. Thomas, and if you and your lover are diving enthusiasts, St. Croix is the island for you.

St. John is for nature-lovers. In fact, you'll feel like you've booked accommodations in a national park, since fully two-thirds of the island is protected.

But you won't have to settle on just one island. Since it's easy to island-hop via local aircraft and ferry service, why not get married on one and honeymoon on the other?
